Hello everybody,
well, the headline already says it all... but here goes the details: I'm on a Mac (Macbook pro 14", M3pro Chip 11/14cores, 18GB RAM, 512 GB SSD -of which 1340 GB free space-, macOS is 26.1 "Tahoe" - in my native German) and running Safari 26.1 (21622.2.11.11.9), with the Fireshot-extension 2.1.3.1 - which used to be running 100% nicely in the past (kudos to the devs!). In Safari, I am running several profiles (private, Job, Hobbies etc.) However, recently Fireshot has started acting strange (I cannot pinpoint any concrete reason ie. updates etc. - I'm sry!): Whenever I click on FS's icon in my menu-bar, instead of the 'capture details'-page, I'm being redirected to some page stating: "Congratulations, FireShot has been updated!"... here's its URL: https://getfireshot.com/updated.php?app=safari&src=ext&ver=2.1.3&win=0 This in itself wouldn't bug me too much, BUT this page pops up in each of my profiles - which means: I have to click this page away seven times (No. of profiles), every time I want to use FireShot... and I'm sure that you can imagine that this ordeal DOES get on my nerves! Being very frank with you, I will admit I've come to appreciate FireShot, as I just like its clean, un-cluttered integration into my workflow (I've been contemplating showing my support, too -> going "pro"). Alas, at the moment, FireShot is almost unusable for me, with this strange kind of behavior... Thus, I turn to you in hope that you'll be able to help me out. Please accept my thanks in advance for taking the time to read my note & looking into the matter! In case you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact me. Looking forward to your reply, I remain Sincerely, M. Koch EDIT: Inserted link to splash-screen, fyi. |

Thank you for reaching out. The situation you described is usually caused by a corrupted database that is used in Safari as a storage for preferences. FireShot has nothing to do with that. The following steps can solve this problem:
- Uninstall FireShot completely, then install from scratch. - Perform this procedure: 1. Uninstall FireShot 2. Open your Terminal app from the Launchpad 3. And type this code: Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user 4. Wait for about 30 secs 5. Reinstall FireShot Hope this helps. __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!

Hey JK,
First off, thank you very much for your reply and detailed description of the workaround. Your reaction is very much appreciated, indeed! Now, I did precisely follow your advice: I deinstalled FS completely (app & SAFARI-extension). Next, I typed the prompt you provided into terminal. I waited 60 seconds & then reinstalled FS "from scratch"per final step: Didn't do anything... Thus, I went through the whole procedure again, the difference being that after the deinstallation, I restarted my entire machine, typed the command (incl. 2mnin. waiting time), and then turn the MacBook off and restarted AGAIN, before reinstalling FS - same result as above... "third time's the charm", I believe that's how the saying goes in English? Well... not always, as I had to find out when repeating the procedure, this time with five minutes waiting time PLUS copy and paste the terminal command, re-checked each letter before hitting "enter" - this time, terminal informed me: "Last login: Sat Dec 6 01:13:42 on console MXXXX@XXXX~ % "(( <- my name & my laptop's moniker ))" /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user # The -kill option has been removed because it was dangerous and no longer useful. MXXXX@XXXX ~ % " JK. I am honest now, as us Germans are known to be: For almost 2 decades now, I have always been a most convinced avid user of Apple products - starting with the very first iPhone in 2007. Through the years, my enthusiasm for Apple slowly died. "IT JUST WORKS" - once upon a time, Apple's claim was true! Today, it's not anymore. Sadly so. It is now 4:30 AM where I live, and this is not the first night Apple has kept me awake. On Monday, I will grab this POS MacBook Pro, drive 2 1/2 hours to the next Apple Store - and either, they will take it back out of my hands. In case they won't, I will happily crash that thing onto the floor or into the next wall. Ha! Before I bought this semi functional laptop (well, at least macOS still did work when I bought it...), I would have never thought I would ever be as frustrated with an Apple product as I am. Please excuse the rant, JK. I've been awake for almost 24 hours, in which I had three telephone calls with Apple Support, lost approximately half of my local MP3 files, ran half a dozen MacBook diagnostics, drove almost 6 hours to the Apple Store & back ("machine is perfectly allright; hard- & software in perfect condition. You do take good care of your MacBook!" 'genius'-comment) - I am totally frustrated, hence I will not be able to sleep now, anyway... this is not meant to be an apology. However, maybe it gives you a clearer picture of how I feel... Anyhow, Thank you very much, JK. You did really try to help, I know! Best regards, M. |

Dear M.,
Thank you for your feedback. I have to admit that presently Apple is not anymore the thing that "just works". Anyway, if Safari pisses you off, you might give a try to Firefox, Chrome or Vivaldi. FireShot also supports these browsers (and a bunch of others), and you will not face this problem anymore. God bless Deutchland. __________________ FireShot Pro Pro Full Webpage Screenshots will be moving to a subscription model soon!
