Enable Smart page breaks

When trying to Export to PDF, the Enable Smart page breaks is grayed out and cannot be selected using the latest version

This option is enabled only when the multipage mode is switched on - this is the checkbox located right above the option you mentioned. Please make sure it's set ON.
